Editorial policy

This page explains how stories get onto Hitechreports. We would rather over-explain this than have anyone guess.

How we pick stories

We monitor public feeds from technology and business outlets, company newsrooms and the large public conversations on Reddit and YouTube. A story qualifies for coverage when it is being carried by more than one independent outlet, or when a single credible outlet or the company itself has it and the response is significant. Volume alone is not enough. Neither is one anonymous leak.

How stories are written

We use automated tools in our production process. The desk reads the available reporting on a story and writes an original article from it. What we publish is our own text, structured our own way. We do not reproduce other outlets' sentences, and we do not pass off their reporting as ours.

Every article carries a Reported from block listing each outlet the story was written from, with a link to their original piece. Where reporting is single-sourced, a rumour or contested, the article says so in the text.

Bylines are desk signatures — column names, not people. Each desk page says so, and our structured data marks every author as an organisation rather than a person.

Reviews and testing

We do not test hardware. There is no lab, no benchmark rig and no review unit on a desk here. Stories in the Reviews section are roundups: they summarise what outlets that did test a device found, name those outlets and link them. We do not publish scores, benchmark numbers or battery results of our own, and we do not mark up roundups as reviews with ratings for search engines.

Deals and prices

Deal stories report a price and a retailer as they were at the time of writing, with the source. We have no live price feed, so we do not show countdowns, stock levels or “lowest ever” claims we cannot check. As an Amazon Associate, Hitechreports earns from qualifying purchases: Amazon links in a story are ours and carry our associate tag. They are added only for products the sources themselves linked to, after the story is written, and never change what is covered or what a story says. Paid placement never appears as editorial.

Leaks, rumours and specs

Unannounced products are written about as what they are: reported, rumoured or leaked, with who is saying it. Specifications and prices are only stated as fact once a company has confirmed them.

Facts, claims and allegations

We do not invent quotes, figures, dates or attributions. If the source reporting does not say it, it does not appear on this site.

Allegations remain allegations. Nobody is described as having done anything unlawful unless a court has found that they did. Stories touching on legal proceedings, deaths, security breaches affecting real people or accusations against named individuals are held for human review before publication rather than going out automatically.

Images and video

Article images come from the source outlet's feed metadata or from public press material, and are credited where a credit is available. Video reviews are embedded from YouTube and credited to the channel that made them. If you hold rights to anything on this site and want it removed, use the contact form and it comes down while we check.

Corrections

We correct errors quickly and openly. If a fact is wrong, send the story link and what is wrong through the contact form. Substantive corrections are noted on the story itself with the date it was updated.

What we do not do

  • We do not publish paid coverage disguised as editorial.
  • We do not run stories about private individuals who are not public figures.
  • We do not publish leaked personal data, credentials or addresses.
  • We do not take a company's press release as a fact-checked story.
  • We do not claim to have tested, used or benchmarked anything we have not.

Comments

Comments are the readers' own. Argue as hard as you like about a phone. Abuse, harassment, slurs and defamatory claims about real people get removed, and repeat offenders lose the ability to post.
