I think my (Android) phone battery is getting pretty bad. 🪫 My phone is often quickly at low battery. Or maybe too many apps? Any tips on how to see what apps are using all my power? 🤔 I don't know anything about android. Maybe this is a dumb question. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (Sometimes when opening a new app, it seems laggy, so I think somethings wrong) I'm not going to install some app from Google play store, those are certainly all a scam. 😅 # android # battery # mobile # DearLazyweb

# Tech # Mastodon I have a question, does # NetBSD have binary forward compatibility (or whatever that would be called)? Like, if I build something using a shared libc and generally using dlopen() or other careful methods for external libraries, will that binary typicall continue to work on future releases of NetBSD as-is? I've heard FreeBSD tends to have that, OpenBSD apparently less so... Asking since I'm tempted to try # NetBSD due to the general # Linux # ensloppification situation :blobfoxangrylaugh: stop the # slop etc. by putting my money where my mouth is, at least if this turns out to

“Around the world, data center companies claim they will be respectful and considerate neighbors, but too often they hide the extent of the damage that follows from the scale of their demands on local resources.” Data center water use is a real problem. Anthropic, the maker of the Claude AI models, says it is putting 5% of its shares into a new "Anthropic Public Benefit Fund", a separate entity inside the company. The fund's worth would grow with the share price, and more could be added if the valuation hits set milestones. The company says it might make large donations to traditional nonprofits or "direct distributions to specific populations", and names AI's effect on jobs as one example: it has already committed US$200 million to study it, but says "bolder approaches may be needed". With the cofounders' pledge to give away 80% of their wea

Good morning. ☕🫖🍃 24 October 2026 Charlie and I spent part of the morning on the porch of my wife's little quilting shop. There was a welcome chill in the air, enough that I pulled on a sweatshirt before settling in with a Thermos of coffee. We enjoyed the quiet while waiting for the sun to climb above the trees in the east. The porch faces south, so during this time of year it catches the sunlight directly once the day gets underway. Charlie wandered the yard, following scents and conducting his usual patrol until he had accomplished what he came outside to do. After that, he joined me on t

during my ahem career in # tech I learned these 2 patterns aren't actually horror stories but simply "what happens": one is the 80/20 pivot, e.g. "we made something with public good value, but 80% of community on whose shoulders we'd built it brings only 20% of revenue, so we ditch them to optimize for the remaining 20% [optionally but likely, B2B clients] cause VCs told us") the other is that your friendly founders and colleagues lose their mind after just a few visits to Santa Clara county

NEW: A week after ProPublica reported how organized crime is stealing food stamp benefits — aided by the government’s refusal to update benefit-card technology — the Department of Agriculture announced plans to adopt more secure cards with microchips. https://www. propublica.org/article/snap-th eft-chip-cards-trump-rule?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post # News # Food # SNAP # Poverty # Crime # Government # USDA # Tech # Technology
