Amazon listed the 65-inch Samsung S90H for $1,497.99 on Wednesday during its Prime Day promotion, down from its usual $1,897.99 sticker price. According to reporting from TechRadar, that $400 discount brings the panel to its lowest recorded price since it released in April this year.
Buyers across the Atlantic saw discounts through British retailer Currys, where TechRadar noted the 55-inch S90H was listed at £1,499 on Wednesday, knocked down from an original £1,599 price tag.
Cutting Reflections in Mid-Tier Panels
Traditional OLED television panels have often faced steep criticism for poor visibility in bright rooms. The mirror-like nature of glossy glass finishes can make dark cinematic scenes nearly impossible to follow under daytime sun. Flagship models have tackled this via boosted panel luminance, but mid-range sets usually miss out on those expensive panels.
Samsung sought to tackle that problem in its 2026 mid-tier lineup by giving the S90H its proprietary Glare Free surface treatment. The company first rolled out this specialized matte screen technology in 2023, though it kept the feature exclusive to top-tier models like the S95 series. This year marks the first time that anti-reflective glass has filtered down to the more affordable S90 family.
TechRadar evaluated the screen in a sun-drenched room on a bright morning next to substantial balcony windows. The outlet reported that the diffusion layer succeeded at muting ambient daylight and suppressing distracting reflections while viewing dark scenes in films like The Revenant, all without compromising deep black levels. The outlet also observed that colors showed vibrant, punchy saturation during tests with the night market sequences in Blade Runner: 2049.
Even so, the S90H does not push the peak brightness levels found on top-of-the-line siblings like the S95H or S99H. The matte coating does the heavy lifting for sunny living rooms instead of raw backlight drive.
Comparison Against LG Rivals
That screen coating sets the S90H apart from direct rivals. TechRadar pointed out that while LG's C6 remains a competitive high-end OLED, its glossy surface continues to catch harsh reflections in well-lit rooms. Meanwhile, older competitors like the 55-inch LG C5 can be found for less money, but they lack Samsung's matte glare suppression.
Console and PC players get a strong selection of gaming features built into the set. Samsung fitted the S90H with four HDMI 2.1 inputs capable of handling 4K signals up to 165Hz. The panel supports variable refresh rate technology across both AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync frameworks, alongside auto low-latency mode and HDR10+ gaming. Cloud players also have access to Samsung's Game Hub service directly from the home menu.
Whether Amazon maintains the $1,497.99 price level after Prime Day ends remains unclear, with seasonal promotions typically shifting heading into November.
