Apple set a steep bar for its foldable entry, pricing the upcoming iPhone Duo at $1,999. Preorders start on October 16, and US carriers are already detailing trade-in subsidies to soften the blow for buyers interested in the book-style hybrid.
At two thousand dollars, the iPhone Duo marks Apple's most expensive phone to date. The hardware bridges the gap between an iPhone and an iPad mini, relying on a compact outer cover that unfolds into a tablet-sized workspace. On the outside, the device sports a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR screen with a resolution of 1,398 x 2,034 pixels. Unfolding the device reveals a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR folding panel running at 1,878 x 2,670 pixels, finished with a nano-texture coating designed to cut down on glare.
Inside, Apple equips the phone with its A20 Pro chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of baseline storage. The camera package skips a dedicated zoom lens on the rear, instead opting for a dual-sensor array: a 48MP main camera with an f/1.6 aperture and a 48MP ultrawide shooter with an f/2.2 lens. Apple also embedded two distinct 24MP front-facing cameras to handle selfies and video calls whether the device is folded shut or fully opened.
