Apple opened pre-orders for the M6 iMac today. The 24-inch all-in-one keeps the same seven color options but swaps in the new M6 chip with N1 wireless and faster Ethernet.
Performance claims are specific. Apple says the 12-core CPU runs 40 percent faster than the M3 generation. The 12-core GPU doubles graphics throughput. The dual 16-core Neural Engine pushes on-device AI work five times quicker.
The M6 MacBook Pro and OLED iPad mini also went up for pre-order at the same time. Apple has not announced shipping dates for any of the three devices.
Pricing starts at the same $1,299 the M3 iMac launched with. Configuration ceilings have not been detailed beyond the top-end 12-core CPU and GPU. The 24-inch 4.5K Retina display carries over unchanged.
N1 wireless is Apple's first in-house Wi-Fi and Bluetooth controller. It replaces the Broadcom combo used since the M1 iMac. Faster Ethernet means a 2.5GbE port instead of the previous 1GbE.
The color palette stays blue, green, pink, silver, yellow, orange, and purple. No new finishes this cycle.
Pre-orders run through Apple's online store and the Apple Store app. Carrier and retailer listings typically follow within hours.
This is the first desktop Mac on the M6 architecture. The Mac Studio and Mac Pro remain on M3 Ultra and M2 Ultra respectively. Their updates are expected next year.
