Google started letting its AI talk to retail workers and customer service agents last month. Now, it looks ready to let the software ring your relatives.
Code found in a fresh app teardown by Android Authority reveals that Google is preparing to expand its Gemini Call for Me tool to personal contacts. An unreleased introductory screen discovered inside the software includes sample prompts such as instructing the assistant to call a mother to say someone is running 15 minutes late, or dialing a friend named John to ask whether he plans to show up for dinner.
Until now, Call for Me has operated strictly as a business concierge. Google rolled out a beta test in September, limiting access to Pixel 11 owners who pay for a Gemini subscription. In that setup, the AI handles commercial chores: checking inventory, asking about retail store hours, confirming prices, holding the line through long customer support queues, and managing restaurant reservations or appointments.
Pushing the system into personal contact lists changes the stakes. Automating hold music at an airline is one thing. Sending an automated synthetic voice to tell someone you are stuck in traffic is a very different social hurdle.
Safeguards and Opt-Outs
Google has built in at least one safeguard before this ever goes live. According to the teardown, people on the receiving end will have the option to opt out of automated phone calls generated by Gemini. If your contacts decide they dislike talking to a voice model on your behalf, they can simply block the AI traffic and force you back to standard texting or an actual human conversation.
Because Google has not announced the feature publicly, there is no guarantee it will ship in its current state. Features surfaced in app teardowns frequently shift during development, and Google could easily scrap the concept or restrict it before an official rollout.
If it does launch, questions remain about how widely Google will distribute it. The existing commercial version of Call for Me remains locked behind both a hardware requirement and a recurring software fee, running exclusively on the Pixel 11 with an active paid Gemini tier. Google has not signaled whether personal calls will stay tied to that premium bundle or trickle down to older Pixel hardware later.
