Apple has confirmed Samsung supplies the display for the iPhone Duo — but not as a shelf-ready part. It’s a custom panel, co-developed from scratch to Apple’s exact specifications, with no prior existence at Samsung’s factories before the collaboration began. Rich Dinh, Apple’s VP of iPhone Product Design, put it plainly: “The display doesn’t exist at the vendor until we start working on it.” That line, delivered in an interview with MrMobile and echoed by JP Guillou, Apple’s Senior Director of Display Technology for iPhone, confirms what many suspected: this isn’t a repurposed Galaxy Z Fold 8 or S26 Ultra screen. It’s built for one device only, the iPhone Duo. And only because Apple defined its optical, mechanical, and durability targets first. The nanotexture finish, IP68 water and dust resistance (a rarity among foldables), and hinge-integrated display architecture were all non-negotiable inputs from Apple’s side before Samsung began fabrication. No pricing, launch date, or regional availability was disclosed in the interview, only that the display is real, custom, and Samsung-made. Samsung phones remain Samsung phones. The iPhone Duo remains Apple’s. But the supply chain just got tighter, and more specific, than ever. Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo are expected to open October 28.
