iPhone Duo Stock Reportedly Lands At Apple Stores Before Launch

Leaked unboxing clips and store-chain sourcing suggest walk-in supply of Apple's folding iPhone may beat expectations, even as some pre-orders get cancelled over suspected scalping.

Stock of the iPhone Duo appears to be reaching Apple Stores ahead of its October 23 launch, according to sourcing published by Digital Camera World, which cited contacts inside the Apple Store chain saying boxes were expected to arrive by Tuesday for opening and auditing.

That timing lines up with a wave of leaked unboxing videos that started circulating online this week, apparently filmed by staff or early recipients getting a look at Apple's first folding iPhone before the public does.

Each store reportedly carries a separate allocation for pre-orders and for demo units, and the demo-unit pool looks to be large. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman is cited as saying the Fifth Avenue store in New York alone is expected to receive 150 demo units. Gurman reportedly did not say whether all of them will be on display at once or whether some will be held back, a detail that matters given the folding hinge is the part most likely to draw hands-on curiosity, and wear, from browsing customers.

The bigger question hanging over launch day is how much of that stock is actually left for people walking in without a reservation. Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo sold out within one minute, according to research attributed to the social account @YCBETA, and the rollout apparently did not treat every buyer the same way. Some shoppers who tried to order a few minutes after sales opened were pushed to delivery dates in late January 2027, while others who had been waiting on the page got through immediately, which one observer likened to a lottery. Queues have already been reported forming outside Apple Stores ahead of launch day.

Order cancellations and a two-phone limit

A separate thread of reports claims Apple has started cancelling some online orders outright. The pattern, as described by Digital Camera World and the account @techdroider, is that customers who tried to buy more than two iPhone Duo units, or who had bought more than two iPhones total in the past year, are being flagged as likely resellers and having their orders pulled to free up stock for other buyers.

The only documentation offered so far is anecdotal: posts from apparently US-based customers describing emails from Apple titled "There's been a change to your order," some reporting their delivery date moved from January 29, 2027 to sometime in November or December. One account described a husband and wife who each placed separate orders, only to have one improved and the other left untouched, which suggests Apple's criteria, if the policy exists as described, are not fully understood even by the people affected.

None of this has been confirmed by Apple, which has not issued a public statement on either the demo-unit numbers or the alleged scalper policy. Digital Camera World said it plans to track changes in iPhone Duo availability as launch day approaches on October 23, when the real test, how many units are actually on shelves for walk-in buyers, gets answered.
