Apple pushed out macOS Golden Gate 27.2 on Monday evening, alongside matching updates for watchOS, tvOS, visionOS and HomePod software. The biggest change is what Siri can now say out loud.
According to release notes quoted by MacRumors, the redesigned Siri AI now speaks French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, on top of English. That's a real upgrade for Mac owners in France, Spain, Portugal or Belgium, who previously had to run their systems in English to get the new assistant at all.
It doesn't fix the bigger problem for European users, though. Siri AI remains locked to Mac and Vision Pro in the European Union, a restriction Apple put in place when the 27-generation assistant launched and has not lifted for iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. Even on a Mac, the system language has to be one Apple actively supports, so a German or Italian setup still gets the old Siri. Apple hasn't said when, or if, those languages are coming.
Beyond the language list, Siri AI is supposed to hold onto context from earlier conversations and lean more on data already on the device. Messages now surfaces suggestions that turn a chat into a calendar event or a reminder without leaving the app. Apple has also reworked how the volume and brightness sliders behave from the keyboard. AppleInsider reports they now snap through small, visible increments instead of gliding, a change some users had been asking for since the sliders were redesigned.
The update also carries the usual bug fixes and security patches, though Apple's support pages hadn't been updated with the 27.2 security notes by Monday night.
WatchOS 27.2 brings the same five-language expansion to Apple Watch along with faster Siri response times, but the update notes repeat the same caveat: no Siri AI in the EU, and none in mainland China either. IOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, meanwhile, hadn't shipped as of Monday evening, even though developers have had a release candidate since October 19.
That delay matters less for European iPhone owners than it might seem. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has reported that a Siri AI launch on iPhone in the EU is unlikely before 2027 at the earliest, so the holdup on this particular update isn't the real bottleneck.
AppleInsider also says it found early touch-interaction code tucked into apps like Safari and Photos in this build, code Apple hasn't acknowledged publicly. For most Mac owners, though, 27.2 lands as a routine maintenance release: a handful of new languages for Siri, steadier sliders, and the usual round of fixes, with iOS and iPadOS 27.2 still to come.
