Capcom is bringing Monster Hunter Rise to mobile phones, but you cannot buy it outright. Store pages that appeared on iOS and Android on Wednesday show the mainline action RPG is heading to handheld devices exclusively through a Netflix subscription.
Players need an active Netflix account to download and boot the game. Unlike cloud-streamed titles on rival services, Rise will download and run natively on your phone or tablet. The move brings the full console game down to mobile silicon five years after its 2021 debut on the Nintendo Switch, with Capcom later porting it to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series consoles.
Going Head to Head With Tencent
The mobile listing indicates touch control support alongside minor differences tailored to phones. That will mark the first time modern mainline Monster Hunter combat runs directly on pocket hardware without a dedicated handheld console.
The timing creates an unusual clash on app stores. Tencent is scheduled to roll out its own mobile title, Monster Hunter Outlanders, on October 29. Outlanders is built from the ground up as an open-world survival game with gacha systems. By dropping Rise onto phones through Netflix around the exact same window, Capcom is giving mobile players a complete, premium action RPG without free-to-play paywalls right as Tencent tries to launch a live-service spin-off.
Rise has plenty of commercial weight behind it. Capcom disclosed earlier this week that the game crossed 20 million sales worldwide across all platforms. That puts Rise within striking distance of Monster Hunter World, which sits at roughly 22.4 million units. Meanwhile, last year's Monster Hunter Wilds stands at approximately 11 million copies sold, with Capcom counting on an upcoming Switch 2 port and the Ascendance expansion to lift its totals.
Store listings have already surfaced, signaling an imminent rollout as the soft launch expands across regions.
