Two of the year's most talked-about flagships have landed at almost the same price, and that's about where the resemblance ends.

According to a comparison published by Gizmochina, the OnePlus 16 and Apple's iPhone 17 are both priced around $900, with the OnePlus 16 estimated at roughly ₹86,000 in India and the iPhone 17 at roughly ₹83,000. At that price point, the two phones are built on almost opposite philosophies. OnePlus is stacking in raw hardware. Apple is betting on refinement.

Battery and charging favor OnePlus by a wide margin

The OnePlus 16 carries a 9,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, more than double the iPhone 17's 3,692mAh cell. OnePlus backs that up with 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, reverse wireless charging and a bypass mode that lets the phone run directly off the charger during heavy use, like gaming, without stressing the battery. Apple's iPhone 17 tops out at 25W over MagSafe or Qi2 wireless charging, with wired charging getting the phone to 50 percent in about 20 minutes under the right conditions, plus 4.5W reverse wired charging for accessories. For anyone who travels light or games for hours without a charger nearby, that gap matters.

The display story runs the same direction. OnePlus fits a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED panel running at up to 185Hz, with Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HDR Vivid support baked in. The iPhone 17's 6.3-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED screen caps out at 120Hz but pairs an anti-reflective coating with higher peak brightness, which should help outdoors even if it can't match OnePlus for sheer smoothness.

Cameras split the same way. OnePlus equips the 16 with a 200MP main sensor with optical image stabilization, a 50MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and a 50MP ultrawide, plus 8K video at 30fps. The iPhone 17 sticks with a 48MP main camera and a 48MP ultrawide, and skips a dedicated telephoto lens entirely, leaning instead on Apple's processing and a 4K60 Dolby Vision video pipeline. Up front, OnePlus goes with a 50MP autofocus ultrawide selfie camera shooting 4K at 60fps, while Apple uses an 18MP sensor tied to Face ID's depth hardware.

Chips tell a different story than the spec sheet

On paper, OnePlus has the muscle. The 16 runs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 with up to 16GB of RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, while the iPhone 17 uses Apple's A19 chip with an 8GB RAM. How that plays out in daily use depends less on numbers and more on how each company tunes its software, something no spec sheet settles on its own.

Build quality is close. OnePlus pairs Crystal Shield Glass with an aluminum frame and rates the phone IP68/IP69K, meaning it can survive high-pressure water jets as well as submersion. The iPhone 17 uses Ceramic Shield 2 with an aluminum frame and a glass back, rated IP68 for deeper water immersion under set conditions, but without the jet-resistance rating OnePlus claims.

Neither company has confirmed these as final retail prices for every market, and the figures reported so far are estimates rather than official listings. Buyers weighing the two will have to wait for confirmed pricing and availability windows in the US and India before the comparison moves from spec sheet to showroom.
