South Africa and Australia meet at Kingsmead in Durban for the opening clash of a three-Test series. It marks Australia's first Test tour in the country since the 2018 ball-tampering controversy, bringing two top-ranked World Test Championship sides back into direct conflict.

The Proteas enter having taken the preceding one-day series 2-1. They hold the World Test Championship title after beating Australia by five wickets at Lord's in the 2025 final, and have stayed unbeaten across seven consecutive Test series, including a 2-0 sweep in India. Australia sits atop the current WTC table, with South Africa trailing in second.

Both camps arrive with altered bowling and batting lineups. South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada makes his return following a hamstring injury that kept him out since May, while Anrich Nortje rejoined the squad for potential selection in his first Test match since 2023. South Africa won't have Lungi Ngidi, Ottneil Baartman, or Kwena Maphaka.

Australia isn't entering the series at full strength either. All-rounder Cameron Green picked up an abdominal strain during the final one-day match and misses the Durban opener. Wicketkeeper Josh Inglis fractured a finger and won't play until the second Test. Those absences open a spot for Nic Maddinson, who could earn his first Test cap since 2016. Ahead of Durban, Australia played a two-day warmup match in Potchefstroom where Marnus Labuschagne posted 111, accompanied by 61 from Steve Smith and 57 from Alex Carey.

Fans tuning in will find broadcast rights split across several regional services, with no open-access live streams available anywhere.

In India, streaming rights belong to FanCode. Viewers can purchase an individual match pass for the Durban Test at Rs 39, or sign up for a monthly subscription starting at Rs 199 on the platform's website and mobile app.

In the United States, Willow TV carries exclusive coverage. Viewers without cable access can subscribe via Sling TV, which bundles Willow through its Dakshin Flex and Desi Binge Plus tiers starting at $10 monthly or $50 for a six-month pass.

In the United Kingdom, Sky Sports Cricket broadcasts the match. Sky Sports packages start at £35 per month, dropping to £24 monthly for current Sky subscribers. Non-contract streaming via NOW Sports costs £14.99 for a day pass or £27.99 for a monthly membership.

Australian viewers can follow the match on Fox Cricket through Foxtel, or stream via Kayo Sports. Kayo costs AU$30 per month, though new users can access an initial AU$1 monthly promotional rate alongside a standard seven-day trial window.

In South Africa, SuperSport handles television broadcast through DStv packages, with streaming access listed starting at Rs 399 per month.

Action begins at Kingsmead as both teams fight for early advantage in the World Test Championship table.
