Amazon is finally ditching the walled garden that defined its slate business for over a decade. The retail giant revealed three Android tablets on Thursday — the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Alexa Tablet 11, and Alexa Tablet 8, and they all arrive with native Google Play Store access straight out of the box.

That single choice ends the long-standing compromises of Fire OS, where buyers had to put up with Amazon's proprietary app catalog or sideload tools to get basic software running. Amazon Devices head Panos Panay pitched the hardware as a dual-purpose machine that can strip back distractions when needed. Flipping on the Kindle software mode converts the slate into what Panay termed a "distraction-free reading sanctuary," cutting notifications, tweaking blue-light output, and stretching battery endurance up to 20 hours.

Big Glass and Matted Screens

Sitting at the top of the range is the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro. It packs a 12-inch panel running at a 120Hz refresh rate with a 3:2 aspect ratio and 280 PPI pixel density. Buyers get an option between standard glass and an anti-glare Nanomatte finish.

Underneath, Amazon loaded a 4nm octa-core chip, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. The slate houses quad Dolby Atmos speakers and targets up to 16 hours of video playback. Amazon is also selling desktop-style add-ons: a magnetically attached Pro Keyboard costs $149.99, while the Pro Pen stylus runs $89.99 for sketching and marking up PDFs.

Further down the ladder, the Alexa Tablet 11 goes for everyday streaming with an 11-inch 2.5K screen clocked at 90Hz. It carries an octa-core silicon setup, 8GB of RAM, dual speakers, and promises 15 hours of video. It ships in Graphite, Amethyst, and Matcha.

Those who want something pocketable get the Alexa Tablet 8. It brings an 8.7-inch display, measures 7.95mm thick, and weighs 329 grams. It delivers Wi-Fi 6, an octa-core chip, and up to 14 hours of video run time, finished in Graphite, Rosette, or Teal.

All three models build in Alexa Plus, triggered through direct voice queries or a dedicated Ask Alexa button on screen. The assistant handles smart-home hardware and can analyze on-screen information when allowed.

Pricing and Rollout

For family households, Amazon also brought out refreshed Kids Tablets in 8.7-inch and 11-inch sizes. Bundles include a protective bumper. Soft Paw Patrol or Barbie cases for toddlers aged three and older, and kickstand shells for children aged six and up, plus a year of Amazon Kids Plus. Software additions include Storybuilder, which drafts voice-guided illustrated stories, alongside an updated Parent Dashboard.

Prices in the United States begin at $229.99 for the Alexa Tablet 8 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The Alexa Tablet 11 starts at $329.99 with an 8GB and 64GB split.

The flagship Alexa Tablet 12 Pro starts at $499.99 for an 8GB and 128GB configuration in Graphite, while opting for the Nanomatte panel bumps the entry price to $549.99.

Orders opened immediately across the US, Mexico, and Canada, with units scheduled to ship out on October 14, 2026. Shipments across the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain follow on October 19. Amazon did not state pricing or release windows for India.
