Amazon India kicked off its Great Indian Festival Sale on October 8, introducing sharp promotional markdowns on Apple handsets. Digit reported on Thursday that the 128GB storage variant of the iPhone 16 was listed at Rs 76,999 on Amazon when the outlet checked the sale listing. That storefront price compares with the Rs 89,900 official price tag on Apple's direct website in India.
The marketplace promoted an even lower figure on its festive event microsite. Promotional banners on Amazon claimed an effective rate of Rs 72,249 for the handset once bank promotions and exchange perks enter the calculation. Clicking through that banner took shoppers directly to the Rs 76,999 retail tag before any cart adjustments. Taking the bank discounts and trade-in incentives into account against Apple's Rs 89,900 storefront figure translates to a total discount of Rs 17,651.
The timing of the sale puts the base model in an interesting spot for Indian consumers. Digit noted that Apple chose not to unveil an iPhone 18 during its product showcase this year. That product roadmap leaves standard alternatives like the iPhone 17 and the newly discounted iPhone 16 as the primary choices for buyers seeking entry-tier Apple flagships without paying top tier sums.
Under the hood, the iPhone 16 relies on Apple's A18 silicon and ships with the iOS 18 operating system. Display duties fall to a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen operating at 2556 x 1179 pixels. Apple gave the chassis an IP68 certification for resistance against dust and water exposure, along with a USB Type-C connector at the bottom edge.
For photography, the handset features a dual rear array led by a 48-megapixel main camera paired with a 12-megapixel secondary shooter. A 12-megapixel front camera handles video calling and portrait shots. Wireless and location hardware includes 5G cellular connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS, and NFC. Inside the chassis, the phone carries an ambient light sensor, accelerometer, barometer, compass, gyroscope, and a proximity sensor.
Festive discount campaigns across Indian online retail platforms routinely rely on combined checkout mechanics. Shoppers aiming for the lowest Rs 72,249 figure will need to hold the participating partner bank cards or trade in an eligible older smartphone at checkout. For everyone else, the baseline transaction sits at the listed Rs 76,999 price point until sale inventory shifts or promotional terms change.
