Amazon listed the AirPods Max 2 at $429 when SoundGuys reported the markdown on Friday morning, trimming $120 off Apple's standard $549 sticker price. That marks a 22 percent cut on the over-ear flagship, matching discounts typically reserved for sales events.
The listing was open to everyone. Buyers did not need an active Amazon Prime subscription to see or claim the reduced price.
Hardware and Features
The 2026 AirPods Max 2 brought a long-awaited silicon upgrade to Apple's top-tier audio lineup, moving the hardware to the H2 chip. According to Apple, that processor bump delivers up to 1.5 times more effective active noise cancellation than the original version. The company also promised clearer output and a more natural-sounding transparency mode.
Because of the H2 platform, the headphones gained several software functions previously limited to the smaller in-ear models. Those additions include Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Voice Isolation, Personalized Volume, and Live Translation. For anyone already carrying an iPhone or working from a Mac, the handoff and computational processing provide the usual ecosystem perks.
Cabled listening also saw a significant overhaul. The headset supports lossless audio playback alongside ultra-low-latency transmission over a direct USB-C connection. Apple also added studio-quality audio capture through the wired interface, catering to deskbound creators who want input monitoring alongside playback.
Battery endurance remains pegged at up to 20 hours on a single charge with active noise cancellation switched on. If the battery runs flat, plugging the cans into power for five minutes yields roughly 1.5 hours of playback time.
Apple sells the AirPods Max 2 in five color finishes: midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue. While discounts on current-generation Apple hardware tend to fluctuate quickly depending on inventory levels, the $429 price point represents one of the steepest cuts seen yet on the updated over-ear model.
