Google is quietly building an escape hatch for one of the most persistent headaches on Pixel hardware. If your phone drops calls or drops off Wi-Fi without warning, the software might soon handle the repair work itself.
New diagnostic utilities spotted in the latest Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 build give Pixel owners dedicated tools to troubleshoot mobile data, cellular calls, and Wi-Fi connections. First discovered by Android Police and confirmed across test builds, the options show up directly inside the "Device health & support" settings menu when running the beta alongside recent Google Play Services updates.
Instead of making people toggle airplane mode or hunt through hidden APN settings, the software runs automated checks behind the scenes. Depending on what breaks, the system will either apply an automatic software correction or walk the owner through targeted steps to get the radio working again.
Expanding the Pixel diagnostic bench
Google has spent the past few cycles fleshing out internal repair and testing software. Existing Pixel firmware already contains self-diagnostic tools for touch responsiveness, Bluetooth connectivity, charging, and battery degradation. Extending that safety net into cellular and local networking addresses a much older sore point.
Radios and modem behaviour have dogged various Pixel generations for years. Dropped calls and delayed handoffs between cell towers and home Wi-Fi networks remain common complaints across user forums. Giving the OS permission to pinpoint whether a failure stems from carrier provisioning, software freezes, or an unstable access point cuts down on routine trips to support threads.
For now, the feature is confined to Pixel devices enrolled in the Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 preview with the beta version of Google Play Services installed. Google has not formally announced the network repair menus on its release channels.
If the testing cycle proceeds on Google's customary schedule, the network diagnostics should roll out to general users with the stable Android 17 QPR3 update early next year.
