Apple rolled out iOS 27 to the public several weeks ago, bringing along a collection of interface tweaks and functional updates to CarPlay that do not require waiting for next-generation vehicle hardware.
The most notable change inside the vehicle involves Siri AI. Drivers can now lean on contextual queries that pull information straight from personal data stored on their iPhones. For instance, speaking to the assistant lets users locate a specific street address mentioned in an email or text conversation and immediately launch turn-by-turn navigation without touching the display.
Media controls received physical interface improvements as well. Apple added a persistent Now Playing mini player that sits in the upper-right corner across compatible audio applications, keeping track details and album artwork visible while navigating other menus. When inside the primary Now Playing screen, drivers and passengers can now drag an interactive audio scrubber. The slider allows direct seeking through songs or podcast episodes on the dashboard screen, removing the need to reach for the connected phone or rely solely on steering wheel toggle switches.
