Apple is charging $1,999 for the iPhone Duo, its inaugural foldable phone, and protecting it will not come cheap.
The handset commands a price tag $100 higher than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 launched earlier this year, slipping just below the $2,099 Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Built in a passport-style layout that folds out to become Apple's thinnest phone profile to date, the Duo is offered in black or white. But keeping that dual-screen chassis safe immediately forces buyers to spend steep sums on dedicated accessories.
First-Party Apple Options
Apple has put two official accessories in its retail store right away. The standard Apple iPhone Duo Case costs $79. Molded from polycarbonate with a matte finish, it arrives in Navy Blue and Sand to accent the two phone finishes. It includes MagSafe magnets aligned for standard magnetic accessories and 25W Qi2 wireless pucks. However, like many basic shells for foldables, it leaves the central hinge exposed.
Those looking for display shielding can opt for the Apple iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand at $129. That is $50 higher than Apple's 11-inch iPad Pro Smart Folio. Designed out of the same textured fabric seen on Apple's TechWoven cases for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, the magnetic cover shields the exterior screen when shut and props the unit up on a desk. The Folio ships in Navy Blue and Taupe.
Third-Party Case Alternatives
Third-party brands are also rolling out distinct solutions, though designs vary in how they handle drop defense and hinge coverage.
Otterbox is preparing a rugged $90 case built with a raised front bezel and an integrated hinge guard engineered to fold flat once the handset unfolds. Otterbox has not pinned down an official release date yet, but the beefier enclosure aims to absorb impact on an otherwise untested folding mechanism.
For minimal bulk, Mous has built an Ultra Thin Phone Case using rigid aramid fiber. It mirrors Apple's $79 price point and features an internal microfiber layer, an embedded MagSafe ring, and front border clips, though it leaves the spine uncovered.
Spigen offers the entry-level price bracket with its Ultra Hybrid Pro (Mag Fit) for $60. It employs an all-polycarbonate see-through shell with built-in magnets alongside a more bulbous exterior hinge cover. Spigen is also preparing an alternate edition featuring opaque perimeter edges alongside a clear rear panel.
Because the passport design introduces an entirely fresh chassis to Apple's catalog, early buyers will have to balance bulkier hinge guards against lighter aramid designs as units begin making their way to store shelves.
