Apple's new iPad mini arrived on Monday with an 8.5-inch OLED display, the company's A20 Pro chipset and an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, packed into a body just 5.4mm thick.
Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, posted on X that the tablet is "thinner and lighter than ever" and called it "the biggest update ever to iPad mini." He also said the device is only the opening act. "It's going to be an exciting week," Joswiak wrote, "and it starts with our all-new iPad mini."
The screen resolution lands at 1512x2316 pixels, Apple's first time putting an OLED panel in the mini-sized tablet, which has stuck with LCD since its last major redesign. Pairing that with the A20 Pro and water resistance puts the small iPad closer in spec to Apple's higher-end tablets than it's ever been.
What's reportedly coming next
Apple has an event scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, and Joswiak's post all but confirms the iPad mini won't be the last surprise before then.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has reported that Apple is set to show off touchscreen MacBooks this week, alongside an M6-powered 14-inch MacBook Pro and a new iMac. Gurman has pointed out that when Apple schedules Wednesday events, it has recently used the days before to roll out other hardware first, the same pattern it followed ahead of the March 4 launch that introduced the MacBook Neo.
If that sequence holds, the M6 iMac and the 14-inch MacBook Pro could land as soon as Tuesday, with the touchscreen MacBook Pro following at Wednesday's event itself. Gurman has called that lineup plausible given Apple's past behavior, but the exact order and timing remain his projection rather than anything Apple has confirmed.
Neither Apple nor Joswiak has named what else is arriving, and the company has a habit of staying quiet on pricing and specifics until the morning of a launch. GSMArena, which first reported the Joswiak post, noted that the schedule beyond the iPad mini is still an educated guess built on Gurman's sourcing rather than an official Apple statement.
Apple has not published US or Indian pricing or a release date for the new iPad mini beyond Monday's reveal, and none of the reporting so far includes numbers for the rumored MacBook Pro, iMac or touchscreen Mac lineup. That leaves Wednesday's event as the moment buyers actually find out what any of this costs and when it ships.
For now, the safest read is that Monday was the opener, not the headline act. Whatever Apple shows between now and Wednesday will decide whether this turns out to be one of its busier product weeks in years.
