Apple has scheduled its next hardware event, called Pro and Tell, for October 28 at 10 AM PT, which works out to 10:30 PM IST. The company has not said what it plans to announce, but a teaser posted by senior VP of Worldwide Marketing Greg Joswiak has already set off a round of guessing.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman flagged the teaser on X, describing it as showing what was "obviously... A finger touching a display and drawing" on the surface. That has fed speculation that Apple is finally ready to put a touchscreen on a MacBook, something it has resisted for years while rivals shipped convertible Windows laptops with touch panels.

The headline product, if the leaks hold up, is a pair of touchscreen MacBook Pro models in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. These are expected to carry OLED panels in place of the mini-LED screens on the current lineup, and reports suggest Apple could bring the Dynamic Island, the pill-shaped cutout that houses the camera and system alerts on recent iPhones, to the notebooks as well. A lighter chassis than today's MacBook Pro is also tipped.

This would be a significant shift for a company whose software chief, Craig Federighi, once argued publicly that touch and a laptop keyboard don't mix well ergonomically. Apple has stuck to that line through several MacBook Pro generations even as the market around it moved.

Alongside the laptops, Apple is said to be working on a new iPad mini with an OLED display, a repositioned FaceTime camera and an upgraded speaker setup. The current iPad mini, launched in 2024, still uses an LCD screen, so a switch to OLED would bring the smallest iPad in line with the iPad Pro's display tech.

Reports also point to a refreshed iMac and an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro built around Apple's M6 chip. Both are expected to keep the design of the models they replace, with the changes limited mostly to what's inside.

Pricing for any of this hasn't been confirmed. Some reports ahead of the event have speculated about what an OLED MacBook Pro might cost, but no concrete figure for the US or Indian market has surfaced yet, and Apple historically reveals pricing only at the event itself.

None of these products are official. Apple has only confirmed the date and time of Pro and Tell, not a single item on the rumoured list, so all of this should be treated as informed guesswork until Tuesday. The event will stream on Apple's website and YouTube channel, with Indian viewers tuning in late at night given the 10:30 PM IST start.

If the touchscreen MacBook Pro is real, it would mark Apple's biggest laptop redesign in years. If it isn't, this won't be the first time pre-event leaks have overreached. Either way, the wait ends in a matter of days.
