Apple refreshed its compact speaker lineup on Tuesday with the HomePod mini 2. The flagship full-sized HomePod did not get a hardware refresh alongside it, leaving the top-tier speaker in place without an immediate upgrade.
A quiet text tweak on Apple's online storefront hints that the larger model might not be left out in the cold forever.
Down at the foot of Apple's HomePod order listing, the image markup describing the larger unit points to an unexpected interface visual. The alt text for the full-sized HomePod graphic describes a multi-colored Siri AI glow on top of the device. That description mirrors the visual signature used across devices running Apple's updated assistant, raising questions about whether the current hardware will gain the feature or whether copywriters prepared text for an unannounced revision.
A simple web production error remains a distinct possibility. Store pages routinely borrow boilerplate descriptive copy across related product cards during busy launch cycles.
Even on the newly unveiled HomePod mini 2, Siri AI functionality is not ready out of the box. Apple noted that the upgraded assistant will arrive through an unspecified future software update, offering no firm calendar window for the rollout. When the feature does land on the smaller speaker, it will carry hardware strings attached. Processing requests that rely on a user's personal context requires a paired iPhone or iPad capable of running Apple Intelligence.
That tethering requirement leaves the bigger speaker in an awkward spot. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman earlier indicated that Apple intends to refresh the standard HomePod eventually. What remains unclear is whether current full-sized units possess the internal hardware needed to process those features, or if Siri AI will stay reserved for a future iteration.
For now, the larger speaker remains on sale unchanged. Anyone waiting to see Apple Intelligence lights on the bigger unit will have to watch for that upcoming firmware rollout or a proper hardware sequel.
