FromSoftware confirmed Thursday that The Duskbloods, one of the most anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 games on the horizon, will not arrive this year after all. The studio behind Elden Ring and Dark Souls announced the delay in a statement posted on X, pushing the game from its planned late-2026 launch into 2027.
"While development of 'The Duskbloods' is at the final adjustment stage, we have made the decision to move the launch window to 2027," the statement reads. "We apologize to players who have been kindly awaiting the release of this title and thank you for your patience and support."
FromSoftware did not give a specific month. The studio said the call came after player feedback from the game's network test in August, with the team now focused on combat, strategic depth and what it calls player expression. That test did not go smoothly. Server issues locked players out on the very first day, cutting the closed beta short before it had properly started.
The writing had been on the wall for a while. The Duskbloods was a conspicuous absence from September's Nintendo Direct, the kind of no-show that usually signals a game isn't close enough to show off. A data-mining effort into the beta client's files surfaced some new details about the game earlier this week, though nothing that pointed to an imminent reveal.
This is the first game Hidetaka Miyazaki has directed since Elden Ring reshaped the genre in 2022, and it's also FromSoftware's first swing at a Switch exclusive, which is part of why expectations have been running high. A multiplayer-focused project built specifically for Nintendo's new hardware is a departure from the studio's usual single-player formula, and the stumble in the network test suggests there was real work left to do before launch.
The delay also lets FromSoftware sidestep a genuinely brutal stretch of early 2027. Games like Stranger Than Heaven, Metroid Ravenous, Persona 4 Revival, God of War Laufey and Fable are all expected to land within a few weeks of each other, while a heavyweight like Final Fantasy VII Revelation sits further out on the calendar. Slipping past January and February, whether that's the plan or not, would put The Duskbloods somewhere with a lot less competition for attention.
For now, FromSoftware is keeping details to itself. No release date, no fresh trailer, no word on whether there will be another network test before launch. Given how quickly the August test fell apart, another public trial run before the game actually ships would make sense. Until FromSoftware says more, The Duskbloods stays one of the biggest open questions on Nintendo's 2027 lineup.
