When Google launched Googlebook OS a few weeks ago, it pitched the new laptop platform as the natural companion for Android hardware. Yet buyers who paired one with a Samsung phone quickly discovered an awkward omission. The platform's entire Better Together integration suite simply did not work with Galaxy devices.
That gap is now closing. Google has begun rolling out updates to Google Play Services and its background Cross-Device Services packages to bring Samsung phones into the fold. Google community specialist Mishaal Rahman confirmed the rollout in a Reddit post, explaining that the missing features are finally landing for supported Galaxy handsets.
Once the update installs, Samsung users gain access to the four core Googlebook cross-device tools: Cast My Apps, Continue On, Notification Sync, and Quick Access. The patch also tackles a stubborn setup bug that left the initial pairing QR code frozen on the laptop display after authentication completed.
There are clear prerequisites before anything will link up. Your Samsung handset must be running One UI 9.0 based on Android 17. Both the phone and the Googlebook also need the newest builds of Google Play Services and Cross-Device Services. Google noted that after background installations finish, owners may need to reboot both machines to kick the handshake into gear.
Leaving Samsung out of the launch window was a bizarre oversight. Samsung accounts for a massive chunk of global Android sales, including the vast majority of premium Android devices in both North America and India. Shipping a laptop operating system designed around phone pairing while failing to support the world's most common Android hardware provoked immediate pushback from early adopters.
Samsung does not sell a Googlebook laptop of its own yet. The company still centres its computing business on Windows-powered Galaxy Book portables, although an unannounced machine powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite processor and running Android 17 surfaced in recent leaks. That device could land sometime next year.
For now, the updates are pushing out automatically through Google Play over the next few days. If the integration does not show up immediately on your One UI 9 phone, check the Play Store for pending background service updates and restart your hardware.
