GTA 6 launches November 19. Pre-orders begin November 10. And right now — this week, before Black Friday and before the game drops, every major console except one is in stock at MSRP across most US and Indian retailers. The exception?

The PS5 Pro. It’s sold out everywhere. No waitlist. No restock ETA.

Just $1,400–$1,500 third-party markups on eBay and reseller sites. Buy at your own risk. That’s the headline fact, not speculation, not rumor, but what IGN’s commerce editor verified across Amazon, GameStop, Target, Microsoft Store, and Sony’s own channels as of November 3. 2026. Not next month. Now. So if you’re waiting for GTA 6 to justify a new console, don’t wait for scarcity to decide for you.

Scarcity already has. Only the PS5 Pro is scarce. Every other model, PS5 Disc ($549.99 in the US, Rs 52,990 in India), PS5 Digital ($599.99 / Rs 57,990), Xbox Series X ($499.99 / Rs 48,990), Xbox Series S (two storage variants, both $299.99 / Rs 29,990), and Nintendo Switch 2, is widely available at list price.

Yes, even the PS5 Digital is in stock except at Amazon and GameStop, where it’s currently sold out. Yes, the Xbox Series X is unavailable at Target and Microsoft.com, but it’s in stock elsewhere. And yes, Sony’s disc-drive PS5 remains on sale despite its planned phaseout in January 2028. That’s not a typo.

Sony will stop making disc-based PS5s then, but it’s still selling them now, freely, at full retail. Why the PS5 Pro shortage? No official word. But the timing lines up: GTA 6 is PS5 Pro-optimized.

It’s also the first major AAA title to require the Pro’s upgraded GPU and ray-tracing hardware for native 4K/60fps performance. That’s why demand spiked, and why Sony hasn’t confirmed a restock date. Meanwhile, Xbox head Asha Sharma’s comment about “more demand than supply” appears to refer only to the Series X at select retailers, not a systemic shortage.

Capcom’s 8.6% Xbox share for Resident Evil Requiem hints at broader platform imbalance, but it doesn’t explain empty shelves. It just explains why Microsoft isn’t rushing to ramp production. What this means for buyers: If you want GTA 6 on day one with max fidelity, you need a PS5 Pro, and you’ll pay for it.

If you’re okay with 1080p upscaled or lower framerates, any other current-gen console works. And if you’re buying just to play GTA 6, you have exactly nine days before preloads open to lock in stock. After that? No guarantees.

Retailers won’t say when they’ll restock the PS5 Pro. They won’t say whether prices hold. They won’t say whether Black Friday deals will include inventory, or just discounts on what’s already sitting in warehouses. So act now.

Not because consoles are vanishing. Because one model already has.
