iOS 27.2 release candidate: What’s in it, when it ships, and why there’s no iOS 27.1 for 2

The iOS 27.2 release candidate is live for developers. It’s the first major update for iPhone 18-series users — and it drops iOS 27.1 entirely for them.

IOS 27.2 release candidate is out — and it’s the first public-facing update for iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max users. No iOS 27.1 for those models. That version is reserved exclusively for the iPhone Duo, which launches January 25. So if you’re holding a non-foldable iPhone launched in 2026, iOS 27.2 is your first major OS update, and it’s now at RC stage.

That means Apple considers it functionally complete. A final public release could arrive as soon as next week. It’s not guaranteed, but RCs almost always ship within seven days unless last-minute regressions surface. The same RC build also covers iPadOS 27.2, macOS 27.2 Golden Gate, watchOS 27.2, tvOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2, and HomePod Software 27.2.

All were seeded to developers on October 19, following four rounds of developer betas. The latest on October 5. Public beta testers got their version earlier this month. They’ll likely see the RC mirrored to them within 24–48 hours.

AppleInsider notes that while RCs are stable by definition, they’re still pre-release software. Back up before installing. And don’t run it on your only phone. The Health app redesign, teased in the first beta.

Has been pulled from iOS 27.2 entirely. It’s been deferred to a later release. FaceTime’s dual capture mode remains, though. Siri AI now supports localized responses in multiple languages, and Apple TV profile syncing (previously limited to tvOS 26.2) now works on iPhone.

A background security feature called AutoLock appeared in beta two: it’s meant to detect sudden motion consistent with device snatching and trigger an immediate lock. But it’s not active yet, just visible in logs. HomePods gained a new Lock Controls toggle in beta four. Apple Music’s icon switched to monochrome in that same build.

No pricing. No regional rollout schedule. No official release date. Just the RC, live now for developers.

And imminent for everyone else.
