Apple’s iPhone 18 won’t launch alongside the Pro models in 2026. It’s now tipped for spring 2027 — and it’ll cost more than the iPhone 17 did at launch. According to Digital Chat Station, a leaker cited by Notebookcheck, the base model will get two key upgrades: a new 2 nm Apple A20 chip and a larger battery.
But that’s it. No display size change. No camera overhaul. No Dynamic Island removal or reintroduction.
Just a 6.3-inch OLED screen with Dynamic Island and 120 Hz refresh rate, identical in spec to the iPhone 17. Same dual 48-megapixel rear cameras. Same Face ID. Same form factor.
The A20 replaces the A19’s 3 nm process, promising better performance and efficiency. The battery is expected to grow beyond the iPhone 17’s 3,692 mAh, though exact capacity isn’t disclosed. For context, the iPhone 18 Pro (Max) carries 4,056 mAh in Europe and 4,288 mAh in the US. That gap matters.
Apple already raised the iPhone 17’s starting price for the 256 GB variant from $799 to $899 in the US, and the iPhone 18 is expected to follow with another increase. No figures are given, but the trend is clear: the base iPhone is no longer the value anchor it once was.
In India, the iPhone 17 started at Rs 79,999 for 128 GB, but no Indian pricing is reported for the iPhone 18 yet. The spring 2027 window lines up with Apple’s historical March or April timing for non-Pro launches, though the company has never confirmed such a schedule. What comes next?
Regulatory filings, carrier leaks, and supply chain reports, all still silent. Until then, the iPhone 18 remains a rumoured refinement, not a reset.
