Apple’s iPhone Duo launched last week. Cases for it are already on sale — and priced from $29 to $89, with designs that treat the foldable’s hinge, dual displays, and MagSafe incompatibility as first-order problems. None of these cases are Apple-branded. All are third-party, all are shipping or pre-ordering now, and all reflect how quickly accessory makers are adapting to a form factor Apple itself has barely explained publicly. 9to5Mac tested five, and their findings map out what early adopters actually face: trade-offs baked into every design choice.
The Baseus case ($29, Amazon) is the cheapest and most functional so far, rotating magnetic kickstand, hinge coverage, no front flap, no adhesive. It leaves the outer display bare, but avoids the residue and alignment headaches of sticky-backed options. That makes it a pragmatic pick for people who want stability and simplicity, not extra bulk.
The Aulumu ADOU ($89, Aulumu’s site) goes the opposite direction: ultra-thin, adhesive-mounted, residue-free, but zero hinge protection and no extras. It’s for users who treat the Duo like a premium slab first, foldable second, and who don’t mind reapplying it occasionally. It comes in Black and Blue. Smartish’s Wallet Slayer ($39, Amazon) solves a real pain point: MagSafe wallets don’t fit the Duo’s asymmetrical shape.
So Smartish built the wallet into the case, holding up to four cards, staying relatively slim, but killing wireless charging entirely. Five colorways, no MagSafe compromise possible. UAG’s Mouve ($84, Amazon) is the rugged option: hexagonal kickstand (for stability on uneven surfaces), raised camera and screen lips, protective corners, Ash and White colorways.
It’s the only one here that treats the Duo like a device that might get dropped, not just folded. MOFT’s magnetic folio ($69, Amazon, pre-orders shipping November 27) is the most experimental: one-panel, origami-style, magnetically attached, no rail protection but a raised lip to keep rails off surfaces. Navy and White variants.
It’s less armor, more stand, and the only one that mirrors Apple’s own folio logic, even if Apple hasn’t released one yet. None of these cases work with existing MagSafe chargers or accessories without modification. None fully cover both displays without blocking functionality. And none hide the fact that Apple shipped a foldable without clear accessory standards, leaving case makers to reverse-engineer protection, usability, and aesthetics on the fly.
What’s next? 9to5Mac says round two is coming “a few months down the road”. For now, the market isn’t waiting for Apple to lead.
