Apple's first foldable phone is officially on sale in India. The iPhone Duo went live at 8am on October 23 through Amazon and Apple's own website, carrying a starting price of Rs 2,99,900 for the 256GB model.
The rest of the lineup climbs quickly from there. The 512GB variant costs Rs 3,24,900, the 1TB model is priced at Rs 3,74,900, and the top-end 2TB version runs Rs 4,49,900. It comes in two colours, Star White and Night Sky.
Apple is softening that bill with a few offers. Buyers using eligible American Express, Axis Bank or ICICI Bank cards can get instant cashback of up to Rs 7,000, and no-cost EMI is available for up to six months through participating banks. Apple's trade-in programme can knock off as much as Rs 81,500 against an eligible exchange device, though the exact figure depends on the model and condition of the phone being traded in. New buyers also get three months of free access to Apple Music, Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade.
What's inside the fold
The iPhone Duo opens into a 7.6-inch inner display with a reported 2713x1920 pixel resolution, and closes to a 5.4-inch cover screen. Both panels get ProMotion, always-on functionality and peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. Apple has also added a nano-texture finish to the inner screen specifically to make the crease at the fold less visible when the phone is open.
Running the show is the A20 Pro, a 2-nanometre chip with a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says it delivers up to 35 percent better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro's chip. Storage options run from 256GB up through 2TB.
On the back is a dual 48-megapixel setup, a Fusion Prime main camera with sensor-shift stabilisation and 2x optical-quality zoom alongside a 48-megapixel Fusion Ultra Wide. The front camera is 12 megapixels. The phone can shoot 4K video at up to 120fps in Dolby Vision, and the folding form factor enables a handful of software tricks Apple is calling Duo Preview, Smart Tag and Dual Capture.
Battery life is rated at up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display, or up to 44 hours using the cover screen alone, according to Apple's own figures.
Built like a tank, unlocked like an old iPhone
The body is Grade 5 titanium with Ceramic Shield protection, and the phone carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. There's no Face ID here. Instead, Touch ID is built into the side button, with more than 100 components packed underneath to manage the hinge mechanism that lets the phone fold and unfold.
Apple hasn't said anything yet about how long this initial batch of India stock will last, or when the next shipping window opens for anyone who orders today. For now, the only thing confirmed is that the sale is live, and the price tag is steep enough that the EMI and cashback offers are doing a fair bit of the selling.
