Apple’s iPhone Duo is not shipping in India — not really. Orders placed now are scheduled for delivery in late January 2027. That’s more than three months from today, and over five months after the device went on sale in India on October 23. Apple has confirmed the delay is global, severe, and unpredictable: COO Sabih Khan told investors on Monday’s earnings call that supply remains “constrained as of today”, and that Apple “doesn’t know when it will end”.
No timeline. No buffer. Just a hard stop at late January, for now. The iPhone Duo launched with pre-orders on October 16.
Stock vanished in hours. In India, Rs 1,99,900 for the 256GB model, Rs 2,29,900 for 512GB, and Rs 2,59,900 for the 1TB variant, all officially listed on Apple’s India site. But those prices are academic if you can’t get one. The bottleneck isn’t just demand.
It’s titanium, memory chips, and physics. Apple is expanding its partnership with Perryman, the US-based supplier of aerospace-grade titanium used in the Duo’s hinge and frame, to speed up production. At the same time, AI-driven chip shortages have spiked component costs across the board, forcing Apple to raise prices on “a number of its products”, Khan said.
The iPhone Duo’s price hike hasn’t been itemised publicly, but the Indian launch prices are higher than early leaks suggested, and higher than the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s Rs 1,59,999 starting point. There’s also a hardware flaw in play: a “very small percentage” of units are arriving with inner display cracks.
Apple is replacing them, no questions asked, but only after customers contact AppleCare. No recall. No public service notice. Just quiet swaps.
US carriers like Verizon are already handing out gift cards to apologise. In India, no such compensation has been announced. Flipkart and Amazon India list the iPhone Duo as “out of stock” or “coming soon”, with no restock dates. Apple India’s website shows only the January 2027 delivery window, no option to join a waitlist, no priority access for Apple Card holders, no workaround.
This isn’t a soft launch hiccup. It’s a structural shortage, one Apple admits it can’t forecast an end to. The first real sales numbers won’t surface until Apple reports its December quarter results in late January 2027. Until then, the iPhone Duo exists mostly as a price tag, a delivery date, and a question: how many people will still want it by late January?
