Apple says 100,000+ apps are now built for the iPhone Duo — but many still don’t fill the screen properly. That’s the reality hitting early buyers as the foldable settles into real-world use. The number comes from Susan Prescott, Apple’s VP of Worldwide Developer Relations, and was confirmed to CNET on November 6, 2026.
It’s not a marketing claim: it’s a count of apps live on the App Store with explicit iPhone Duo support, meaning they adapt layout, navigation or functionality to the 4:3 inner display, cover screen, or hinge-aware gestures. Not just resized. Built for it. 100,000 is a milestone, but it’s also a snapshot, one that sits alongside visible gaps.
Discord, for example, still renders centered with black bars on either side. CNET tested it and calls that ‘partially fits’, a label echoed by fan-run trackers tracking compatibility in real time. That’s not broken. It’s transitional.
And it’s familiar: Android foldables went through the same phase, often for 12–18 months after launch. Apple’s moving faster. Thousands of developers attended iPhone Duo workshops in 19 cities last month. Microsoft Word and Outlook now mimic desktop layouts.
Zoom treats the inner screen as a video conference stage. NBA and NHL apps show live feeds and highlights across the full panel. Etsy and LTK Creator pack more items into feeds. Goodnotes and Extra expand note-taking surfaces.
Halide Mark III shifts its interface depending on whether the phone is closed, half-open, or fully unfolded, a hinge-native behavior few apps yet attempt. IOS 27.2, expected imminently, adds Apple Pencil (USB-C) support for Notes and other compatible apps, another layer of optimization coming soon. Apple isn’t hiding the work left to do.
It’s adding a ‘Made for iPhone Duo’ badge to App Store pages and spotlighting optimized apps in sections like ‘Great Apps and Games’. But the badge won’t appear automatically. Developers must submit updated builds, pass review, and declare Duo support. That means the 100,000 figure will climb, but unevenly.
Some categories move fast. Others stall. The next wave of updates arrives daily. The App Store doesn’t pause.
