The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition — the 2024 model, is now $169.99 on Amazon, marking its lowest price ever. That’s $30 off its current $249.99 list price, and $10 more than the standard Paperwhite’s pre-discounted $159.99 MSRP before Amazon raised both models’ MSRPs a month ago.
Amazon attributes the recent price bump. From $199.99 to $249.99 for the Signature Edition, to higher memory and storage component costs. But the discount brings it well below even its old $199.99 MSRP. Third-party tracker Camelcamelcamel confirms this is the lowest recorded price for the device.
This isn’t the new 2026 model. Amazon announced updated Kindles earlier this week: the base 2026 Kindle is already shipping, while the new Paperwhite and Colorsoft launch October 28. But PCMag’s reviewer says those newer models offer no screen upgrades. Same resolution, same E Ink technology, same readability. Their main changes are slimmer builds and optional aluminum bodies at a premium. So paying $250 for the new aluminum Signature Edition, or even $200 for the new base Paperwhite, makes little sense when the 2024 Signature Edition delivers identical core functionality for $170.
What you get for $169.99: a 7-inch E Ink display with adjustable front light (brightness and color temperature), IPX8 waterproofing, 32GB of storage, double the standard Paperwhite’s 16GB. Wireless charging, automatic ambient light adjustment, and no lock-screen ads. The warm/cool light toggle helps reduce eye strain in different lighting conditions, and the screen remains glare-free in direct sunlight.
The deal is live during Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days, which run through October 5. Prime membership is required to access the pricing, though Amazon offers a free 30-day trial during the event.
No other Kindle model is discounted as deeply right now. The standard Paperwhite’s pre-discounted list price is $199.99, but its current sale price wasn’t disclosed in the source material. The Signature Edition remains the standout value.
This isn’t a limited-time flash sale with inventory warnings. PCMag reports the device is widely available at this price as of October 5. It ships with Amazon’s standard delivery timelines, and no regional pricing variations were cited.
The next major Kindle refresh arrives October 28. But unless you specifically want an aluminum chassis or marginally thinner bezels, there’s no functional reason to wait. The reading experience, the whole point of an e-reader. Hasn’t changed.
For readers who prioritize battery life, distraction-free design, and sun-readable text over app ecosystems or color displays, the 2024 Paperwhite Signature Edition at $169.99 is the strongest Kindle value on the market today.
