Lenovo's LOQ Essential gaming notebook was listed at roughly $1,200 at Best Buy after a $700 discount when Notebookcheck reported the markdown on Friday. The retail cut takes a chunk out of the machine's typical price tag, though buyers will want to know exactly what this specific configuration brings along with it.
The discounted unit runs on Intel's Core i7-13650HX processor, packing a 14-core layout that handles multi-threaded computing workloads without breaking stride. Paired with that chip is Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5060 laptop graphics card, equipped with 8GB of GDDR7 video memory. Lenovo pairs those components with 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 512GB solid-state drive.
Paper specifications tell only part of the story. Notebookcheck noted in its testing of the portable rig that its real-world graphical throughput fell behind expectations. In the publication's Cyberpunk 2077 benchmarks, the LOQ Essential actually trailed a machine running an older RTX 4060 laptop GPU. The processor fared better, maintaining steady output throughout sustained computing tasks.
The 8GB allocation of GDDR7 VRAM remains soldered and permanent. For modern releases that chew through memory buffers, that ceiling could prove restrictive over the next few years.
Lenovo also shipped the laptop with a single memory stick out of the box. Running single-channel memory throttles bandwidth until you add a second module, though an unoccupied SODIMM slot inside the chassis allows for a straightforward upgrade later. Storage can also expand beyond the default 512GB capacity through an available M.2 2280 drive bay.
Display Quality and Connectivity
The laptop carries a 15.6-inch panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. Testing by Notebookcheck recorded peak brightness at 322 nits alongside near-total coverage of the sRGB color spectrum. The outlet pointed out that color fidelity proved solid straight out of the box without manual tweaking. Color reproduction for wider spaces is narrower, settling at 71 percent of the DCI-P3 range, and direct glare might prove tricky given the moderate luminance ceiling.
Physical ports cover the everyday essentials without forcing you to hunt down USB hubs. You get a single HDMI 2.1 port, one 10Gbps USB-C connector, a pair of 5Gbps USB-A ports, and a gigabit Ethernet jack for wired networking. Lenovo rounds out the build with Wi-Fi 6 wireless connectivity, a basic 720p webcam, a 135W AC adapter, and twin 2W stereo speakers.
Best Buy had the markdown active on Friday morning, but retail discounts on gaming hardware frequently shift depending on inventory levels.
