Rising silicon prices have made storage hardware steadily more expensive across the board, but a handful of notable discounts surfaced this weekend on both portable solid-state drives and internal NVMe hardware.

Best Buy listed the Lexar SL300 portable drive at $280 after a $70 price cut when PCMag reported the deal on October 11. Built with an integrated heat dissipation system and rated to withstand drops from up to two meters, the external SSD features hardware-level 256-bit AES encryption alongside Lexar's DataShield management software.

Amazon offered several storage markdowns of its own on Sunday. The miniature 1TB Lexar Go drive, bundled with a companion expansion hub that adds four USB-C ports, was discounted by $50. Measuring roughly the footprint of a business card, the unit targets mobile video shooters who need to attach accessories like microphones and lights while capturing high-bitrate footage.

For builders looking inside a desktop or laptop, Kingston's budget-focused NV3 internal drive received a 27 percent price reduction on Amazon. The PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD tops out at read speeds of 6,000 MB/s. It skips top-tier speeds to keep thermals and power draw low, making it a viable fit for compact builds on tighter budgets.

Rugged portable drives also saw price adjustments. The Samsung T7 Shield was listed at a 10 percent discount on Amazon when PCMag rounded up the promotions. The drive features an aluminum core wrapped in a thick rubber shell rated to survive drops from up to 9.8 feet, paired with dust and water resistance and hardware encryption.

Traditional mechanical storage picked up markdowns as well for buyers prioritizing capacity over pure transfer rates. Seagate's portable 2TB external hard drive was listed at $120, running off standard USB bus power for multi-device backups. Western Digital's mains-powered MyBook desktop drive also saw promotional pricing, aimed at bulk media archives where transfer rates of around 177 MB/s suffice.

Price cuts across internal and external solid-state storage tend to fluctuate quickly on Amazon and Best Buy as inventory shifts, especially with flash memory supply tightening.
