Motorola has started pushing its Android 17 update to the Razr Ultra 2025. Unlocked units in the United States have begun receiving the upgrade, extending the latest software to last year's premium flip device, sold outside North America as the Razr 60 Ultra.

The deployment surfaced after an owner on Reddit reported their handset had updated overnight. That unit, an unlocked AT&T variant running on US Mobile in the northeastern US, received the new build without warning. Most other users in community forums have not spotted the file yet, suggesting a quiet, staggered rollout rather than an immediate worldwide push.

Along with the platform upgrade, the installation appears to slip a few surprises onto local storage. The same user noticed TikTok had installed itself during the process. Moto AI, which had previously been turned off manually, was reactivated in the system settings. It is a familiar tactic across mobile brands, but it means owners will want to inspect their app drawers right after installing the build.

Android 17 brings altered interface styling, redesigned alert handling, sharper multitasking tools, and tightened privacy controls. For Motorola, pushing the software to a 2025 flagship is an important move, given the brand's long-standing reputation for sluggish post-launch support.

The Software Timeline

Google debuted Android 17 on Pixel hardware in June 2026, and Samsung followed with its own updates a couple of months later. Motorola published an extensive list of 50 target devices in August, then began issuing the code to Razr, Edge, and Signature models through September. Newer releases like the Razr Ultra 2026 and rivals like the Nothing Phone (3) picked up the operating system earlier this month.

The 2025 clamshell sits in a peculiar bracket. Motorola committed the device to three major OS upgrades and four years of bi-monthly security patches. That roadmap leaves Android 18 as the final platform bump next year, keeping security maintenance active until 2028.

That cycle trails behind the seven-year guarantee Google and Samsung now provide on top-tier devices, but it keeps the older Razr running modern software for now. Wider regional distribution should expand across carrier variants and global Razr 60 Ultra units over the coming weeks.
