Walmart is selling the MSI Vector HX 16 gaming laptop with an RTX 5080 GPU for $2,299, a $1,000 instant discount off its regular price, IGN reported Monday. Shipping is free. There's no word on how long the price will hold.
At $2,299, the laptop pairs a flagship Nvidia mobile GPU with specs that usually cost more to add on their own. MSI bundles in 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a 2TB SSD at that price, which IGN's Eric Song called generous given current flash storage prices. Buyers won't need to upgrade either component out of the box.
The screen is a 16-inch IPS panel running at 2560x1600 resolution, a density of 189 pixels per inch, with a 240Hz refresh rate and G-Sync compatibility, according to IGN. That's a sharper and faster display than most mid-range gaming laptops ship with.
Power comes from Intel's Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, which IGN says can turbo up to 5.4GHz across 24 cores. It's built for gaming and workstation loads alike, the kind of chip you'd expect to find in a laptop at this tier rather than one discounted to $2,299.
The headline component is still the RTX 5080 mobile GPU. IGN's report puts it roughly 15 to 20 percent ahead of the RTX 5070 Ti, and says it edges out even the desktop-class RTX 4090 from the previous generation, with the gap widening further in games that support DLSS 4.5, Nvidia's upscaling and frame generation technology. IGN says the GPU should handle native 2.5K resolution at 60 frames per second or better in current titles, including Control: Resonant and Crimson Desert, though that's IGN's framing of the hardware's capability rather than a result from Hitechreports' own testing.
Whether $2,299 counts as a bargain depends on what else is on shelves. RTX 5080 laptops from other brands have launched well north of $2,500 at list price, so a $1,000 cut on a machine with this much RAM and storage built in is a meaningful gap, assuming the configuration matches what IGN described.
IGN's report covers the US listing only. There's no mention of an Indian price or availability for this configuration, so buyers outside the US will need to wait for MSI or a regional retailer to confirm local pricing.
Deal pricing moves fast, and instant discounts like this one often come with limited stock or an unlisted end date. Anyone considering it should check Walmart's listing directly rather than assume the $2,299 figure holds past this week.
