Digital console gift cards are seeing rare markdowns at Newegg. The online retailer rolled out promo codes that discount store currency vouchers across PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo consoles, as IGN reported on October 9.
Digital store cards seldom sell below face value outside of major holiday promotional windows. For anyone buying games digitally, however, shaving cash off voucher redemptions directly lowers the final price of digital software, subscriptions, or upcoming seasonal promotions.
The largest raw discount applies to Sony's digital storefront. A $100 PlayStation Store gift card was listed at $89 when IGN reported it, requiring coupon code FTTF7924 during checkout. That marks an $11 savings on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 digital purchases.
Microsoft's digital credit also saw a direct price cut. A $50 Xbox gift card was discounted to $45 using checkout code FTTF7893. The resulting balance credits directly to a Microsoft account, where players can spend it across digital game releases and backward-compatible catalog titles on an Xbox One or current-generation hardware.
Nintendo users get an equivalent reduction on digital currency. A $70 Nintendo eShop card was available for $63 when entered with promo code FTTF78278, yielding a $7 drop on digital Switch releases.
Timing Ahead of Seasonal Sales
Unlike physical games, which drop in price quickly at retail, digital store pricing on console platforms remains rigid. Digital storefront operators set digital software prices directly. Stacking discounted wallet cards ahead of seasonal sales events gives digital-only console owners a rare way to cut total checkout costs.
Newegg has not specified an exact expiration time for the promotional codes. The merchant regularly runs targeted coupon promotions that vanish once specific inventory allocations sell through. Buyers need to paste the respective code into the promotional box at checkout for Newegg to adjust the total before payment.
