Finding a compact Android tablet with genuine flagship aspirations has felt like a hopeless search for years. Apple has run the small-screen market almost entirely uncontested with the iPad mini, while Android makers repeatedly steered their high-tier components into massive 11-inch and 12-inch slabs. Oppo wants to change that dynamic with the Pad Mini, an 8.8-inch machine engineered around top-shelf processing and a remarkably slim profile.
Getting those specifications into a portable shell comes at a staggering financial cost. Oppo announced the Pad Mini in India at Rs 94,999, putting it straight into premium laptop territory. To make that figure harder to swallow, the company is offering just one hardware trim. That single build pairs 8GB of RAM with 256GB of internal storage, a relatively modest allocation at a price where shoppers might reasonably expect 12GB of RAM and half a terabyte of room.
Display and Silicon
The slate builds its pitch around an 8.8-inch 2.5K OLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. Rather than sticking to standard gloss, Oppo treated the glass with a matte texture. The finish cuts glare from overhead lighting and introduces subtle friction against digital pens, aiming to mimic the physical sensation of dragging a pencil across paper.
Internal computing duties fall to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Manufactured on a 3nm fabrication node, the chipset initially debuted in 2025. While Qualcomm has moved ahead since, the component remains capable of delivering near-flagship speeds across Android workloads without breaking a sweat. Wireless transfers rely on Wi-Fi 7, and the device runs the ColorOS 16 interface on top of Android 16.
Thin Build, Large Battery
The most unusual feat of engineering is how much power Oppo crammed into the tablet. The chassis measures a scant 5.46mm thick, yet houses an 8,000 mAh battery. When that supply runs down, the tablet supports 67W wired fast charging over USB-C.
Oppo kept the rear setup stripped back. The slate carries a single 13MP camera on its back, signaling that mobile photography was low on the priority list. Styling is similarly restricted, as buyers get only one colorway: a Lavender finish.
With an asking price reaching nearly six figures, Smartprix recommends prospective buyers hold off for full hands-on testing before committing to the purchase, particularly given the memory constraints. Indian sales for the Oppo Pad Mini begin on October 29, 2026, across Flipkart and Oppo's direct online storefront.
