The PlayStation 5 with disc drive won’t play audio CDs — full stop. It also rejects HD-DVDs, DualDisc audio sides, and most rewritable Blu-ray formats, including BD-R, BD-RE XL, and BD-RE ver. 1.0. Sony confirms none of these are supported, even though the console has a Blu-ray drive and can handle standard Blu-rays, Ultra HD Blu-rays, DVDs, and PS5 game discs, region-free, no restrictions.
No workaround exists for CDs or HD-DVDs. For DualDiscs, only the DVD side may work. The audio side won’t. And while BD-RE ver. 2.0 and later might play, Sony hasn’t listed them as supported, so it’s unconfirmed, not guaranteed. You’ll need a separate CD player or USB stick (exFAT or FAT32) to listen to music.
The PS5 doesn’t read burned movies unless they’re on a supported disc type, and most consumer-burned Blu-rays aren’t. This isn’t a firmware bug. It’s by design. Sony published the list. It’s final.
