Samsung Pushes Second October Software Update To Galaxy Z Fold 8 And Flip 8

The rollout lands hours after Samsung quietly shipped a second unexplained update to the Galaxy S26 series this month, with neither release accompanied by a changelog.

Samsung has started rolling out a second software update this month to its newest foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8. The company has not said what the update actually changes.

The release follows the same pattern as an update Samsung pushed to the Galaxy S26 series earlier the same day. Neither company statement nor changelog has surfaced for either rollout, and both appear to be the kind of under-the-hood patch Samsung ships when it needs to fix something without waiting for the next scheduled release.

For the foldables, the update is rolling out first in South Korea, Samsung's home market, as is typical for the company's staged releases. The build for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra carries firmware version F976NKSU3AZJ8 and weighs 687.54MB, according to details shared by tipster Mohammed Khatri. Samsung is expected to extend the rollout to other markets, including the US and India, over the coming days.

A second quiet patch for the S26 series too

The Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra received their own second update of October just a few hours before the foldable rollout began. That build, carrying firmware version S94xNKSU5BZJB and weighing 580.37MB, reportedly keeps the same security patch level as the update before it, meaning it isn't a routine monthly security release dressed up as something else.

That's notable because the S26 series already got its scheduled October security update last week, which closed 62 separate security issues found in the prior firmware. Shipping a second, undocumented update so soon after suggests Samsung ran into something that needed fixing immediately rather than a month from now, though the company hasn't confirmed what that something is.

Samsung rarely explains these mid-cycle patches in detail, and sometimes the reasoning only becomes clear once a fix shows up in a later changelog or a teardown turns up what changed. Until then, owners of either device line are left updating on faith.

If you own a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ or Galaxy S26 Ultra, the update should reach your device over the next several days if you're outside South Korea. You can check manually by heading to Settings, then Software update, then Check for updates. Given how close together these two unexplained releases have landed, it's worth installing either one as soon as it appears rather than waiting.
