Siri AI spoke only English until Monday. With the release of iOS 27.2, Apple added French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, bringing the total to six supported languages for the feature Apple has been building out as its answer to ChatGPT-style assistants baked into the phone.
Apple says it isn't stopping there. The company confirmed that four additional languages will join Siri AI "by the end of the year," which in practice likely means the iOS 27.3 update expected in December. 9to5Mac reports that the first iOS 27.3 beta could land within days, giving developers and testers an early look at what's coming before the public release.
One of those four languages is Chinese, specifically the Traditional script used in Taiwan and Hong Kong. But support for the language doesn't mean support for the market. Siri AI remains unavailable in mainland China, and that's not changing with this round of updates. According to Bloomberg's reporting, Apple does plan to bring some Apple Intelligence features to China alongside iOS 27.3, but Siri AI is not expected to be among them.
That gap matters. China is Apple's third-largest market by revenue and one where it already trails local rivals on AI features baked into phones from Huawei, Xiaomi and others. Regulatory approval for foreign AI models operating in China is its own slow process, and Apple has previously worked with local partners, including Alibaba, to get Apple Intelligence features cleared for release there. None of that appears to be resolved yet for Siri AI specifically.
For everyone else, the rollout marks a real shift. Siri AI launched as an English-only feature, a notable limitation for a company that sells phones in dozens of countries and advertises Apple Intelligence as a flagship reason to upgrade. Doubling the language count in one update, then promising four more within weeks, suggests Apple is trying to close that gap fast rather than let it linger the way earlier Apple Intelligence delays did.
Apple hasn't named the other three languages joining Chinese in the next wave, and until the iOS 27.3 beta shows up, there's no confirmed list to point to. What is confirmed: six languages now, a commitment to ten by January, and a Chinese version of Siri AI that technically exists but nobody in China can actually use yet.
