Sony wants your PS5 to look like it belongs in a '90s electronics catalogue again. The company has announced the Prism Collection, a range of transparent DualSense wireless controllers and matching PS5 console covers, due to launch on February 4, 2027.
The collection comes in three colourways: Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray. Each pairs a glossy, see-through shell in its namesake colour with the usual DualSense internals left at least partly visible underneath. Sony hasn't published full technical specifications for the controllers beyond the finish, so whatever haptic feedback and adaptive trigger hardware ships inside is presumably unchanged from the standard DualSense.
Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President of Global Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, said the collection grew out of the design team's interest in giving the PS5 and DualSense a transparent look, as a way to show off the engineering inside both the console and the controller. Gadgets 360, reporting separately on the announcement, framed the look as a callback to the see-through design trend that ran through consumer electronics in the 1990s, when clear plastic casings turned up on everything from game consoles to telephones. Sony's own statement doesn't make that '90s connection explicit, so take the nostalgia angle as one outlet's read on the aesthetic rather than Sony's official pitch.
Pre-orders open on November 10, 2026, through PlayStation directly and through participating retailers. The console covers, which snap onto the PS5 to give the whole machine the matching transparent treatment, will be sold directly through PlayStation in supported regions and through select retailers in limited quantities elsewhere.
Neither Sony nor Gadgets 360 has published pricing for the Prism Collection yet, and nothing in the announcement confirms whether the controllers or covers will reach Indian retailers or PlayStation's Indian storefront on launch day. Sony has flagged that "launch dates and availability may vary by country or region," which is corporate shorthand for: wait and see where you live.
Transparent gaming hardware has had moments of popularity before, mostly as limited runs tied to a game or an anniversary. What's notable here is that Sony is treating see-through finishes as a standing product line with three colour options rather than a one-off collector's item, which suggests the company expects enough demand to justify ongoing stock rather than a single collectible drop.
The four-month gap between pre-orders and the actual February 2027 launch is unusually long for an accessory refresh, and it leaves plenty of time for Sony to confirm pricing and regional rollout details, including whether Indian buyers get a day-one slot or have to wait for the "select retailers" phase. For now, anyone hoping to buy one should keep an eye on PlayStation's own storefront once pre-orders open on November 10.
