Microsoft has launched the Surface Laptop Ultra — a 15-inch Windows laptop built with Nvidia’s new RTX Spark platform, and priced from $2,600 in the US. Preorders opened Wednesday, October 7. Shipping starts Friday, October 16. In India, no pricing or availability has been announced, only the US figures are confirmed. The device is not a consumer mainstream machine. It’s a high-end workstation-class laptop aimed squarely at developers and creators who need local AI inference, not cloud-dependent Copilot calls. That means no ‘Nvidia app’ integration. No standalone desktop utility, no consumer-facing AI launcher. What it does have is an Arm-based RTX Spark SoC, built on Nvidia’s Blackwell GPU architecture, and designed to run large language models and agentic workflows directly on-device. The base model packs 24GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and the entry-level RTX Spark N1X chip, an 18-core CPU paired with a 5,120-core GPU. Step up to 32GB/1TB and you pay $3,300. Top out at 128GB RAM and it’s $5,900. Before tax or shipping. Microsoft says it’s for people who want “portability with exceptional craft” and need to keep sensitive data off the cloud. The laptop also introduces a magnetic USB-C charging cord, new for Surface. No Indian price, no UK or EU figure, no mention of Linux compatibility, no reference to the ‘Nvidia app’ in any official material. Just raw silicon, steep pricing, and a narrow target: professionals who can justify $5,900 for local AI horsepower. Shipping begins October 16.
