Xiaomi has opened pre-orders for the Mijia Water Purifier 3 1200G, a home water filtration unit built around a 13-stage system that the company says can remove 145 types of contaminants from tap water. Official sales begin October 30 in China, priced at 1,499 yuan, which works out to roughly $225. There's no word yet on whether the device will reach India or other markets outside China, so anyone hoping for a local price or launch date will have to wait.

The purifier relies entirely on physical filtration, with no scale inhibitors added to the filter media. Xiaomi says the 13 stages filter down to 0.0001 microns, catching everything from residual chlorine and heavy metals to bacteria and viruses across the intake, rinsing and output stages. The unit also carries what Xiaomi describes as mother-and-baby-grade purification certification, and the company says the water that comes out is BPA-free.

One detail aimed at households that don't run the tap constantly: a self-purification cycle flushes out water that's been sitting in the pipes, so the first pour after a period of disuse isn't stale. To tackle the bacterial growth that can build up when a purifier goes unused for a while, Xiaomi has built long-lasting antibacterial material into the outlet pipe's post-filter. The company claims this knocks out more than 99% of E. Coli and Staphylococcus aureus at the point of use, which is the kind of number that matters more to someone who travels often than someone refilling a kettle five times a day.

Through-put is the other headline figure here. Xiaomi rates the system at around 1400G for direct drinking water, with an initial flow rate of 3.74 liters per minute, fast enough, by Xiaomi's own math, to fill a 150 mL cup in about 2.4 seconds. That's a meaningful jump for larger households that have been waiting on a slower purifier to catch up, or who run multiple taps off one unit.

What you get day to day

A built-in display shows water mode, volume settings and TDS readings, the standard shorthand for how many dissolved solids remain in a glass of water. The unit is also IPX8 rated, so splashes and general kitchen humidity shouldn't be an issue.

It connects to Xiaomi's Mi Home app, where owners can check water quality and usage history, track how much life is left in the filters, tweak the flow rate, and order replacement cartridges without hunting down a part number. The total rated lifespan of the filtration system comes out to 50 tons of purified water before those cartridges need replacing.

For now, the 1,499 yuan price and October 30 sale date apply to China. Whether Xiaomi brings the Mijia Water Purifier 3 1200G to India or other markets, and at what price, hasn't been announced.
