Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G is live in the UK at £399 for 8GB/256GB — and it’s built around one thing: battery life. At 33 hours and 42 minutes of Wi-Fi video playback, its endurance beats nearly every mid-range Android phone on sale in 2026. But that stamina comes with trade-offs, a downgraded Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chip, missing 6 GHz Wi-Fi, USB 2.0 only, and camera performance that steps backward from the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G it replaces.
No Indian or US pricing is confirmed in the reporting. The UK launch is real. The rest remains unannounced. Xiaomi has not said when or if the device will land in India or the US.
So for now, this is a UK-first device, priced, reviewed, and available. Not a leak. Not a teaser. A shipped product.
And it’s heavy: 225 grams, with a camera bump pushing thickness to 11.5 mm. It’s also IP66/IP68 certified in Germany, and IP69/IP69K elsewhere, rare for a sub-£500 phone. The display is bright AMOLED. The build feels premium.
The software is Android 16 with HyperOS 3.0, backed by four years of OS updates and six years of quarterly security patches. But Xiaomi still ships bloatware and system ads. You can remove them, but you have to look up how. The IR blaster stays.
Auracast? Missing. Bluetooth 6.0? Present, but unused for broadcast audio.
The main camera uses a smaller sensor than last year’s model. Fine detail vanishes in daylight shots. High-contrast scenes blow out highlights. The ultra-wide is soft.
Zoom is blurry past 5x. Video tops out at 30 fps in Ultra HD. Call quality is natural, but no ambient noise suppression. Dual SIM?
Yes, nano-SIM, eSIM, or hybrid. GNSS is single-band, yet fixes fast, even indoors. The Poco X8 Pro Max sits higher in Xiaomi’s stack as the more powerful alternative. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max isn’t balanced.
It’s focused. If your day starts with a full charge and ends with 40% left, and you don’t mind compromises elsewhere, this phone delivers exactly what its name promises: Pro Max battery. The UK store lists it now. Green, black, and cloud red. £399 for 8/256 GB. £449 for 8/512 GB.
No word yet on rollout beyond the UK.
