Apple built the iPhone 18 Pro around hardware meant to muscle through local AI computation, and the phone is now demonstrating what that extra silicon headroom actually buys. Running iOS 27, the flagship leverages its updated processor architecture to accelerate the overhauled Siri experience, handling screen parsing and assistant customization faster than older hardware.
The hardware advantage centers on the A20 Pro silicon. The chip delivers a 50 percent boost in memory bandwidth over the A19 Pro alongside 40 percent quicker graphics rendering. Apple also slotted in a Dual 16-core Neural Engine that doubles local AI processing power compared to the prior generation. While Apple Intelligence features in iOS 27 use Gemini models across supported hardware, the extra memory pipeline and twin neural blocks give the newest model a clear edge in response latency.
That shows up right away in voice customization. Available on devices configured with 12GB of RAM, such as the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro, iOS 27 lets users reshape how the assistant talks. In US English, the software offers seven distinct voice profiles, five speaking paces, and five levels of expressivity across masculine, feminine, and gender-neutral options. Regional accents also extend to British, Irish, Indian, and Australian English. Switching across these permutations happens instantly on the A20 Pro, making the synthetic speech feel far less robotic during daily spoken queries.
Onscreen awareness sees a similar pickup in pace. The assistant can evaluate content actively displayed on the screen to parse trouble tickets, decipher ambiguous text messages, or automatically populate forms with stored contact information. If you discuss dinner plans inside Messages, Siri can scrape the context to draft reminders or log calendar entries without requiring manual input. The underlying processing can also summarize long web articles on command.
Automation gets an overhaul through natural language prompts inside the Shortcuts app. Instead of dragging and configuring individual logic blocks, users can speak desired routines directly to Siri. Prompts can instruct the phone to build an automation that calculates travel time to a partner's address using Apple Maps and sends an estimated arrival time over text, triggered later by a simple phrase like "Siri, I'm running late." The assistant can also set up Safari triggers to monitor webpages for inventory changes, alerting shoppers when out-of-stock items return.
The assistant ties these features directly into Apple stock applications, pulling relevant details from Mail, Calendar, Contacts, and Apple Music to answer user queries without cloud detours. With iOS 27 now widely available following the September launch of the hardware, Apple plans to introduce more localized voice tones and languages in upcoming software updates throughout the year.
