Apple is partnering with LG on an upcoming family of smart home devices, according to a report from Bloomberg. The lineup includes video doorbells, indoor cameras, thermostats, and front-door deadbolts built to integrate directly with Apple's platform.
Rather than stamping its own logo onto every accessory, Apple is using what Bloomberg terms a "second-party" development arrangement. The hardware will carry LG badges on the outside while relying on tight integration with Apple's software and home ecosystem behind the scenes.
The push marks a tactical pivot for Apple, which has long relied on disparate third parties to flesh out its HomeKit catalog. Sources cited by Bloomberg indicate the catalog will also feature outdoor security cameras and floodlight cameras, giving the joint effort immediate coverage across indoor monitoring, climate control, and perimeter security.
Several devices in the pipeline will arrive with radio support for both Matter and Thread. That protocol combination ensures wide cross-platform compatibility, even as Apple uses the LG gear to underpin what Bloomberg describes as a "formal reboot" of the HomeKit ecosystem. The deadbolt lock stands out mechanically: it incorporates ultra-wideband tech, allowing the mechanism to recognize an approaching homeowner and unlock automatically.
A Hub at the Center
The accessory push connects directly to Apple's broader living-room plans. Bloomberg has previously reported that Apple is developing a dedicated smart home hub equipped with a six-inch screen, designed to be hung on a wall or placed on a tabletop. Driven by Siri and AI features, the display is aimed at serving as a central dashboard for automations, alerts, and camera feeds.
Apple is expected to unveil that display during an event on October 13. Bloomberg reports the presentation could also introduce a refreshed HomePod mini alongside an upgraded Apple TV device. Rolling out co-developed LG hardware gives that upcoming screen a tailored suite of gear to control right out of the gate.
Neither Apple nor LG has publicly detailed regional availability, launch dates, or pricing for the lineup. For users seeking broader Apple support across everyday home security gear, the October 13 event should reveal how the partnership fits into the company's next product cycle.
