Apple is preparing to enter the dedicated tabletop display market with an upcoming home hub expected to arrive next week. The device, which centers around a rumored six-inch square screen, aims to provide households with a single, stationary nerve center for managing connected appliances, lighting, and security gear. Direct touch interaction and voice prompts handled by Siri AI will anchor how owners operate the machine day to day.
The introduction of a specialized countertop screen addresses a long-running gap in Apple's residential hardware portfolio. Up to now, the company has relied on set-top boxes like the Apple TV and ambient speakers like the HomePod to act as background hubs. While those devices process automation data smoothly, neither delivers an interactive physical screen stationed on a counter or table. That leaves users dependent on pulling out an iPhone or iPad whenever they want a quick visual overview of what is happening around the house.
On the industrial design front, the hub reportedly takes inspiration from an unusual corner of Apple history. Leaks suggest the chassis will echo the profile of the classic iMac G4, an early-2000s desktop famous for suspending a floating display on a chrome neck anchored to a hemispherical base. Whether Apple adopts an identical arm structure or simply borrows the concept of an elevated panel, the rumor suggests something far more expressive than a flat iPad propped on a dock. The hardware is also expected to launch across four distinct colors, expanding aesthetic choices beyond the sterile white or dark gray finishes common to ambient electronics.
