Apple Books marked down a selection of ebooks and audiobooks on Monday, dropping several mystery and nonfiction releases to $2 or making them entirely free. The price cuts cut as much as 89 percent off original list prices across digital volumes.
When 9to5Toys reported the promotion on October 12, Dianne Freeman's historical mystery A Lady's Guide to Etiquette and Murder was listed for free on Apple Books. Five other entries in the author's Countess of Harleigh series saw their prices slashed to $2 each. A Bride's Guide to Marriage and Murder, normally priced at $13.50, sat at $2. Three other instalments — A Daughter's Guide to Mothers and Murder, A Fiancée's Guide to First Wives and Murder, and A Lady's Guide to Gossip and Murder, were down to $2 from their regular $10 tags. A Lady's Guide to Mischief and Murder dropped to $2 from $10 as well.

Nonfiction titles joined the promotion at similar price points. Bartolomé de las Casas's historical chronicle A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies was listed at $2 on Apple Books when 9to5Toys reported the promotion, down from its usual $6 tag. Gideon Defoe's An Atlas of Extinct Countries dropped to $3 against a standard $12 price.
