Fixing an inner screen on the new iPhone Duo without warranty coverage will cost $999. If you crack the hinge or damage the frame, the fee reaches $1,499.
Those numbers landed right before preorders for the foldable device go live on Friday. While traditional flagship repair bills are already high, the Duo sits in another tier entirely. At $1,499, a single catastrophic repair matches the price of an entire premium handset.
Every new unit ships with Apple's standard one-year limited warranty and 90 days of technical support, but that policy strictly covers manufacturing defects. Any crack, drop or hinge failure from daily handling requires paying full repair fees or carrying AppleCare+.
Without coverage, fixing just the outer cover display costs $379. Replacing only the rear glass is $199. If both the outer display and the back glass break together, Apple charges $509. The folding interior panel is the real hazard at $999.
Under an active AppleCare+ subscription, those fees shrink to manageable copays. Apple charges $29 for fixing either the cover screen or the back glass alone, and $58 for both. Repairing the internal folding screen drops from nearly a thousand dollars to $99. Other accidental structural damage, which otherwise carries that $1,499 penalty, also drops to $99.
Even basic maintenance is pricier on the foldable. Replacing the iPhone Duo battery out of warranty runs $229. That is $100 more than replacing the cell on an iPhone 18 Pro, which costs $129. With an active warranty subscription, battery service costs nothing.
Apple altered its extended coverage rules in 2025, ditching the upfront two-year or three-year flat plans. Buyers now must take a monthly or annual subscription to keep coverage going. Hardware prices climbed in June, followed by service cost bumps across Macs and iPads in July and iPhones in September. Device owners can add AppleCare+ at purchase or through their device settings within 60 days of buying.
Customers in regions like the US, Canada and the UK can also renew expired plans within a 45-day grace window. Those bundled into an existing AppleCare One package can fold the new device into their tier without a separate individual invoice.
Preorders for the iPhone Duo start immediately, with store shelves slated to receive the phone shortly after.
