Apple is preparing to bring professional installers into living rooms. A series of employment moves at home security provider ADT points toward an upcoming collaboration between both companies, timed alongside Apple's long-rumored smart home hub.

Reporters received invitations to a "Welcome home" gathering in New York scheduled for Tuesday, October 13. If current chatter holds up, ADT could play a central role on stage. Since July, the security provider has recruited low-voltage technicians across several American cities under strict non-disclosure pacts. New recruits received little explanation of their daily tasks, spending months shadowing existing staff while waiting for project details. ADT also handed these hires company iPhones instead of the Android models it normally distributes to field workers.

Those workers were initially told to expect operational details in September, before management postponed the briefing to late October. That delay mirrors Apple's own schedule, after the company reportedly pushed back its smart display rollout until a revamped Siri AI system debuted last month.

Hardware for the Living Room

The rumored hardware lineup aims directly at the center of the house. Apple is expected to introduce two versions of its central hub: a tabletop design resting on a dedicated speaker base, and a second model built for wall mounting. Both variants will handle security monitoring, display calendar schedules and family photo galleries, make FaceTime video calls, and manage smart devices throughout the house. Native Apple Music playback and automation controls will sit at the core of the interface.

Apple has also reportedly collaborated with third-party accessory makers, including LG, to build out compatible equipment. That expansion explains why ADT technicians could enter the equation. Managers reportedly informed new hires that their roles involve automated home systems and residential installations. An official option to have an ADT technician run wiring and securely mount a display on drywall would eliminate the biggest headache buyers face with wall-mounted screens.

Whether ADT will handle active home security monitoring for Apple hardware remains unanswered. ADT established a smart home alliance with Google in 2023, but it scaled back support for several Google Nest features earlier this year. People familiar with that arrangement indicate the Google contract either concluded recently or will expire next year without renewal, clearing the runway for another partner.

Apple has not verified any agreement, and technician hiring patterns could theoretically point elsewhere. Tuesday's event in New York will show whether professional installation becomes Apple's newest hardware add-on.
